A school for pupils with special educational needs has raised more than £2,500 to tackle the Australian bushfires.

Pupils and staff at Trinity Fields school held an Australian-themed day to raise money for the nature charity WWF on Wednesday, January 29.

Pupils came to school dressed in Australian-themed costumes and took part in ‘Bush Tucker Trials’, among other fundraising activities, such as producing art work inspired by the land down under.

Headteacher Ian Elliott MBE said: “I am so proud of all the staff and pupils here at Trinity Fields. Many of our pupils are aware of the devastation caused by the bushfires, so with the help of one of the teachers here, Vicky Chiplin, who organised and co-ordinated the day, the pupils were able to do their bit to help.

“Well done and thank you to all for participating in fundraising for this very worthy cause. My special thanks to Vicky for organising and inspiring the school team.”

Cllr Barbara Jones, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for education and achievement, said the school had “thrown a fantastic spin on fundraising, combining education on the bushfires and fun, engaging activities to raise money for all those affected.

“Well done, you should all be very proud of yourselves.”
