More than £1,700 was raised during a charity rugby match held in Risca on Saturday, February 8.

The match saw the charity touring team Egg Chasers Rugby beat Risca RFC veterans 20-10.

The money raised will go towards the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and Mike Crisp’s Pain in the ALS Fightback Fund.

Rugby pitches and clubhouses flooded during Storm Dennis

The Egg Chasers team is an invitational team made up of rugby veterans aged between 35 and 50 from clubs across the south-west of England.

Since the team was set up 14 months ago, it has helped raise more than £10,000 for charity.

Founder Andy Jarrett created the team after discovering that his friend and ex-teammate, Mr Crisp, had been diagnosed with MND – a life-limiting condition that affects the brain and nerves.

Mr Jarrett said: “It was a really well organised event. Risca are an old-school proper team. They do things the right way.

“We arrived at 11am, kicked off at 12 and then watched the Six Nations matches afterwards with a few drinks and a sing-song.”

Mr Jarrett said he’s hoping his Egg Chasers team can play fixtures against the Risca RFC veterans every year.

He added: “It is humbling to see how quickly the vision for Egg Chasers has grown, and we only have our players, supporters and rival teams to thank for that.

“Getting back on the pitch is one thing but helping us achieve the amazing total of over £10,000 was far beyond what we could have hoped for.”
