Primary school pupils in Abertridwr have raised around £300 for people affected by recent flooding during their school Eisteddfod.

Pupils at Cwmaber Infant School decided to forego prizes so that money could go to people affected by the Storm Dennis flooding.

The Eisteddfod concert was held on Friday, February 28.

During the Eisteddfod, pupils took part in singing, folk dancing and a range of craft activities, with around 80 people paying to attend the performance, which is usually free of charge.

Headteacher Jayne Price said: “It was a real pleasure to see parents, pupils and staff working together and giving so generously.”

Aber Valley councillor John Taylor, who took part in the traditional ‘chairing of the Bard’ at the school Eisteddfod, said : “As chair of the governors of Cwmaber Infant School I am always delighted by the generosity of the pupils and their families.

“The pupils at Cwmaber are always ready to help people less fortunate than themselves.”
