Caerphilly Tennis Club has called on residents to show off their tennis skills amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The club, which has suspended all tennis activity for the foreseeable future, is encouraging players to remain active while the UK is in lockdown because of Covid-19.

Using the hashtag ‘#QuarantineTennis’ on Twitter, the club wants players to send in clips showing off their various skills during these unprecedented times.

The club will also be sharing challenges and games to keep players occupied over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, prizes will be dished out for those who regularly complete the challenges and come up with their own creative ways to pass the time.

The club’s committee has cancelled all of their planned events – including the 2020/21 season launch, Quorn Family Tennis Cup event and Aussie Open Team challenge – until Sunday, April 19.

But head coach Jonathan Morgan has encouraged players to stay active by carrying out demonstrations of the challenges on social media, prompting other players to pick up their rackets and test out their skills.

A club statement read: “During this period where there are no tennis activities at CTC due to the coronavirus pandemic, we will be posting regular videos to our social media channels.

“These are designed to keep players engaged in the club, connected with other players and inspired to still pick up a racket and get some practice in, as well as providing some light hearted fun and release for everyone.

“These videos (daily skills, #TekkersTuesday and #FamilyFunFriday) will compliment our other social media features (Friday Filler and Suggestion Sundays) we have lined up during the coming weeks.

“We would love to see you have a go at the various skills, challenges and games we share, so film your attempts and share them online.”
