A learning and development trainer from Caerphilly has raised over £3,600 for NHS frontline workers by shaving his hair and beard.
Christian Morris, 45, livestreamed the event on Facebook on Sunday, March 29.
He will donate the money raised to NHS Charities Together, an umbrella organisation that represents and supports the work of the NHS’ official charities.
The organisation is currently running a campaign to support NHS staff and volunteers who are caring for individuals with Covid-19.
Mr Morris told Caerphilly Observer: “It was amazing how quickly interest grew. We just never imagined raising this total.
“Everybody who knows me knows how much I love my beard. I’ve been thinking about shaving my hair for a worthy cause for several years and last week I realised this was the time to do it.
“All I really wanted to do was raise a little money and give some entertainment to people on a Sunday night.
“We know many friends who are nurses, carers and working in supermarkets, and this is for them.”
The Facebook Live video gained nearly six thousand views and over a thousand comments on Sunday night.
Mr Morris was joined in the video by his partner Lianne Thomas. The couple also used the video to name key workers they know as a way of saying thanks.
Ms Thomas said: “It’s amazing how many people came together to donate to this cause despite not knowing what the future holds regarding their own jobs.
“We just want to thank everybody who has supported us and give a big shout to all those who are working to keep the country going.”
While Mr Morris is yet to decide whether to maintain his smooth new look, he said he is looking forward to thanking people in person in the future.
“If people listen to the advice and stay home, this situation will be over quicker and we can all have a big party.”
