Council takes measures to enforce social distancing among bin collectors

Caerphilly County Borough Council has taken measures to enforce social distancing among bin collectors.

The council has introduced more back-up vehicles to support bin collectors and ensure workers are able to stay two metres apart, as per new rules introduced by Welsh Government to combat coronavirus.

The new social distancing measures have been created to provide extra safety for those who are unable to work from home during the pandemic.

In response, the council has brought in more back-up vehicles and has warned residents that bin collections could take longer than usual.

The council’s cabinet member for corporate services, Cllr Colin Gordon, said: “The health and wellbeing of staff is of paramount importance to the council.

Support is on its way, council tells angry business owners

“Steps have already been taken to ensure the safety of staff across the council, which will be monitored and reviewed as necessary.

“We are committed to delivering key services for local communities, but we must also ensure the safety of staff.

“We therefore ask for residents’ patience during these unprecedented times, as we adapt the way our services are delivered in order to protect our workforce.”

An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the council had introduced extra bin collection vehicles.
