A Crumlin-based printing company is making visors for medical and care staff on the frontline in the battle against coronavirus.
Lexon Group is aiming to produce 10,000 visors and is looking to distribute them across Caerphilly County Borough and neighbouring areas.
Tonyfelin Surgery and Nantgarw Road Medical Centre in Caerphilly, as well as the Royal Gwent Hospital and the Royal Glamorgan Hospital have all received free visors from the company, which is based at Pen y Fan Industrial Estate.
The company has three members of staff at any one time working on producing the visors.
Around 1,700 plastic sheets have been given to the company free of charge by suppliers Premier Paper, to be used to make the equipment.
Lexon Group commerical director Dominic Hartley said: “It’s important that everyone does what they can during these times.
“My son-in-law is an A&E doctor and he said they’re crying out for PPE [personal protective equipment].”
The visors will be given to both NHS and private frontline healthcare staff, as well as staff at hospices, care homes and surgeries.
Mr Hartley said the idea to produce the visors was that of managing director Garth Davis.
Dave Jones, marketing director at Premier Print, told Printweek: “When the call came in from Lexon for direct support to help protect our NHS workers who are on the front line of fighting Covid-19, we were delighted to be in the position to offer help.”
