Nearly £30m has been paid out to businesses in Caerphilly County Borough as part of an emergency coronavirus grant scheme.
As of Tuesday, May 26, Caerphilly County Borough Council had processed 2,532 successful applications as part of the Covid-19 non-domestic rate grant scheme – the highest number in Gwent.
The support grants are available to businesses forced to close temporarily due to the lockdown, and applications can be made on the council’s website.
The scheme, which is funded by Welsh Government, has seen more than 52,000 businesses across Wales receive financial help, with £640m paid out in total.
Hefin David, Caerphilly’s Member of the Senedd, said: “I have been working very closely with the local authority in order to support local homegrown businesses in these difficult times.
“I have to praise the positive way in which the business community has worked with me and for the leadership shown by the local authority to process the vast amount of applications they have to date.”
Cllr Sean Morgan, deputy leader of the council, said: “Our local businesses have benefited to the tune of nearly £30m through their hard work and engagement with us.
“We need to ensure we reach every business possible, so we will continue to reach out to support all eligible businesses in these unprecedented times.”
