Police and paramedics at the scene of the attack

A 40-year-old man was stabbed in the neck with what is believed to have been a glass bottle during a robbery in Caerphilly last night.

Police and paramedics were called at around 8pm on Sunday, May 31, to an area between Lansbury Park and the entrance to Morrisons on Bedwas Road.

Police also went to Attlee Court in Lansbury Park during the incident. Initial reports suggested that two people had been stabbed, but police have since confirmed there was only one victim.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “We got a call about 8pm last night to a report of a robbery on Bedwas Road close to Morrisons garage near Lansbury Park.

“A man was assaulted and received a stab wound to the neck area from what is believed to be a glass bottle.

“A bike and mobile phone were stolen and a 30-year-old man from the Caerphilly area was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault and is currently being questioned.

“The victim, a 40-year-old man from the Caerphilly area, received hospital treatment and has since been released.”

Anxiety is understandably high as this was the second stabbing in four days in the town, and the third in the county borough.

A 26-year-old man suffered stab wounds to the abdomen during an attack on Thursday last week near Caerphilly Castle. A 23-year-old man has since been charged with this attack.

There was also another stabbing near Newbridge on Thursday, May 28, in which a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
