Police investigate the scene of the stabbing near Caerphilly Castle

A 23-year-old man has been charged and is due in court this morning following a stabbing near Caerphilly Castle.

Scott Chamberlain, 23, of Nantgarw Road, Caerphilly, appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a bladed article, namely a knife in a public place.

He was remanded in custody and is sue to appear at Newport Crown Court on June 29.

Chamberlain was arrested after a stabbing on the banks of Caerphilly Castle moat in Dafydd Williams Park.

Police were called to the incident at around 8.50pm on Thursday, May 28, with a 26-year-old man suffering stab wounds to the abdomen.

The victim was taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where he remains and is currently in a stable condition.

A 30-year-old man from the Deri area was also treated for superficial wounds at the scene.

It was the second stabbing to take place in Caerphilly County Borough that evening, with an incident taking place in Pantside, near Newbridge, about an hour earlier.

Chamberlain’s father, Paul Chamberlain, 69, also of Nantgarw Road, appeared in court last month following an armed police incident at his home.

Chamberlain senior was charged with affray under the Public Order Act 1986.

He was remanded in custody and will appear before Newport Crown Court on June 9.
