Young people creating coronavirus time capsule

Young people in Caerphilly County Borough are putting together a time capsule to share their experiences of the coronavirus pandemic with future generations.

The time capsule will be kept on display at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s headquarters in Tredomen until the year 2040, when it will be opened to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the pandemic.

It is being put together by the council’s youth forum, which is appealing for young people to come forward with items such as letters, postcards, diary entries, poems, drawings, arts and crafts, photos and even memes, to include in the capsule.

However, the time capsule is small, so only the first ten items received can be included.

But, the youth forum is making a short film which will feature all of the items that have been sent in, for future generations to see.

Councillor Philippa Marsden, who is leader of the council as well as the council’s youth champion, said: “This is a great idea from Caerphilly Youth Forum.

“The coronavirus outbreak has been a very strange time for everyone, and I think capturing individual experiences of it is brilliant.

“When the capsule is opened it will be a fabulous reminder of what these strange times looked like and a great learning tool for those too young to remember or not yet born to look at and explore in years to come.”

Anyone interested in sending in something that can be included in the time capsule can email youthforum@caerphilly.gov.uk or contact Caerphilly Youth Forum on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
