Work to build four new business units in Nelson is underway.

The new units will offer a combined 1,300 square metres of floor space, with each unit able to be divided into two or three smaller units.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of next summer.

The new units, which are being built at the Ty Du site, are part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, with further investment from Caerphilly County Borough Council and Welsh Government.

Interserve Construction Ltd has been appointed as the contractor for the project.

The first phase of the project, which included preparing the site and the construction of infrastructure, access roads, drainage works and more, was completed in 2019.

Council deputy leader Sean Morgan, who is also the ward councillor for Nelson, said: “Supporting our local economy is more important now than ever.

“The Ty Du site is a flagship development which will offer high quality space for new businesses to develop a base in the county borough, or for existing companies to expand; bringing with them job opportunities for local people.”

Carl Read, divisional director at Interserve Construction, said: “We are looking forward to working in collaboration with the council to deliver the Ty Du development, which is expected to make a significant contribution to this area of Wales.”
