A Christmas lights competition has been launched

A Christmas lights display competition has been launched by Van Community Council.

The Cheer up and Light Up for Christmas competition will be open to anyone living in the Van Community Council area, which covers Castle Park, Lansbury Park, Porset Park and Mornington Meadows.

The competition winner will win a £75 gift voucher, the runner-up will receive a £50 gift voucher and the third-placed entry will receive a £25 voucher.

There will be winners in each of the three wards making up the Van Community Council area – Lansbury, Porset and Brynau.

“Christmas is not cancelled” – residents come together to spread festive joy

Meanwhile, the street with the best lights display will win £100 for a nominated charity.

Councillor Barbara Jones, vice chair of the community council, said: “Competitors don’t need to spend a lot of money – we’re looking for the best ideas. We’re looking for initiative, not spending.”

Organisers say the displays will be judged based on “creativity, innovation, imagination and the safe reuse and upcycle of items in the display”.

Community councillors will judge the competition, with judging starting on December 7.

For more information about the competition, visit vancc.co.uk or call community council clerk Marcia Jones on 07387 885132.
