Wales have been crowned World Cup of Darts champions after Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton’s 3-0 victory over England’s Michael Smith and Rob Cross.

The duo sealed the £70,000 victory on Sunday evening (November 8), marking the first time Wales has won the competition.

The competition was held in Salzburg, Austria.

In the opening singles tie of the final, Price beat Smith 4-1 to give Wales a 1-0 lead.

The advantage was doubled when Clayton beat Cross 4-2.

The duo then sealed the victory during a doubles game, where they came out 4-3 winners to secure a 3-0 overall win.

Price said: “It’s the proudest moment of my darting career – I’m quite emotional.

“I’ve had some success recently for myself but to win this for Wales this means so much to me.

Glory for Gerwyn Price at world series finals

“I know I’m playing well at the moment but this is a doubles game and I couldn’t win it without Jonny. This is a team and we deserve it.”

Clayton said: “I’m the proudest man on the planet right now and to play with Gezzy, the best player in the world at the moment, I’m just so happy.

“This means the world to me, and to beat England in the final, I’m so proud.”

In their opening game of the competition, Wales beat Russia 5-0, before beating 2019 champions Scotland 2-1.

Price and Clayton then defeated Australia’s Simon Whitlock and Damon Heta 2-1 in the quarter-finals, before Gabriel Clemens and Max Hopp of Germany were beaten at the semi-final stage.
