More financial support for unpaid carers in Wales has been announced by Welsh Government.
An extra £250k will be invested into the Carers Support Fund – which was unveiled last October.
One million pounds was allocated to the scheme when it was first launched, with the aim of helping unpaid carers cope with the financial pressures of the coronavirus pandemic.
The scheme offers unpaid carers grants of up to £300 to buy essentials such as food, household items and electronics, such as laptops to access support and services.
Announcing the additional funding on Thursday (January 21), Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services, Julie Morgan MS, said: “The pandemic has added more challenges to unpaid carers across the country and I want to thank them for everything they are doing.
“Working with Carers Trust Wales, who play such a pivotal role in delivering advice and support, the Carers Support Fund will be continued to be delivered via them.”
Hefin David, Senedd Member for Caerphilly, said: “I’m so grateful to the unpaid carers in Caerphilly and across Wales, who continue to be completely selfless and do so much to care for others, particularly during the current climate.
“I hope the grant brings some financial relief and I hope that it makes a difference. It’s great to see people getting the recognition that they deserve”.
The fund will be available until March 31. Information on how to apply will be made available at carers.org/wales
