How can I better my mental health and wellbeing?

Ask the recruitment expert, in association with Vetro Recruitment.

2021 didn’t start as many of us had hoped. Many people are struggling with their mental health and wellbeing during these times. It is vital to talk to someone. If you are employed, speak to your boss. If you are an employer, look for signs that your workforce might be struggling.

At Vetro Recruitment we see first hand the impact of Covid-19 within the sectors we work in. But we are aware this impact is wide-spread. As such, we have provided mental health and wellbeing support not only to our employees, but to our clients, candidates, and opened it up to the public via our social media channels. It is with thanks to Hayley T Wheeler, Emotional Wellbeing Coach, and Osk Danielsdottir, Wellbeing and Yoga Trainer for Office Om.

Try to build a wellbeing toolbox. Add good things into your life to make you happier. This sounds very simple, but if you are struggling right now, you will appreciate how difficult it might be to do this.

The key is all about mindset. Things often feel easier when you can put a positive spin on them. Incorporate gratitude into your daily routine. If something is getting you down, try hard to flip it and consider the positive outlook. If you cannot clear your mind enough to do so, go for a walk, do some cooking, read a book, tinker in the garden… Or try to find a quiet space to close your eyes and breathe deeply, clear your mind of negativity. Alternatively, if the quiet is what is getting you down, pick up the phone to a loved one, talk, and laugh. Laughter really is an amazing medicine.

Employers also have a care of duty. If you are an agency worker and feel a little unsure where to turn, please reach out to the agency you work for. We have a social responsibility to look after all of our workers, not just direct employees.

If you are interested in agency work across care, nursing, and the education sectors, with training and support offered, please do get in touch with us at enquiries@vrecruitment.co.uk or 02921 660880.
