A 19-year-old from Caerphilly is set to compete at the inaugural World Snooker Tour Pro Series this week.

Dylan Emery gained his place in the professional tournament, which is being held in Milton Keynes, after Morocco’s Amine Amiri withdrew.

Emery will be in Group H, where he will play seven matches in a round-robin format on Wednesday, March 10.

He will play against Ali Carter, Mark Davis, Tian Pengfei, Chang Bingyu, Simon Lichtenberg and Kuldesh Johal, as well as Hamim Hussain, who gained a place in the competition following the withdrawal of China’s world number 12 Yan Bingtao.

The competition format will see 128 players divided into 16 groups of eight players. Each player will play against each other once, with the top two advancing from each group.

Emery, who is currently an amateur and practices at the Aber and Senghenydd Ex-Servicemens Club, is aiming to achieve his dream of turning professional and earning a tour card.

Snooker prodigy aims to build on impressive Welsh Open debut

He goes into the competition off the back of an appearance at the Gibraltar Open – which was also held in Milton Keynes due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

During that competition, Emery beat Ben Hancorn 4-0, before a narrow 4-3 loss to Lei Peifan in the Last 64.

Last month, he competed at the Welsh Open, which was held at the Celtic Manor Resort.

There, he beat the world number 33 – Lu Ning – 4-3 in the first round, but was beaten 4-1 in the second round by Joe Perry, who is ranked 19th in the world.
