Five Cardiff City FC fans, all from Caerphilly, have been charged with violent disorder after a clash with rival Swindon Town FC fans.

Dominic Towell, 28 of Farm Road, Caerphilly, Jordan Gurner, 19 of Glyn Collen, Llanbradach, Lee Evans, 27 of King Street Abertridwr, Michael Grainger, 22, of Brynawel, Machen, and Steven Harding, 28 of Wedgewood Court, Caerphilly, will all appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court in the New Year to answer the charges.

Oakdale copper honoured by Prime Minister

An Oakdale policeman has been honoured for his achievements at a special reception at 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister.

Chief Superintendent, Ian Johnston, who is also the president of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales, attended the reception recently with his wife Janet after being nominated to attend by Islwyn MP, Don Touhig.

Mr Johnston served for 33 years with Gwent Police and was the Basic Command Unit Commander serving the Local Authority areas of Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent immediately prior to taking up his appointment with the Association.

Cefn Fforest dog beating left animal with brain damage

Police are appealing for information to try and catch the person who beat a dog so badly that it may have suffered brain damage.

The attack on the terrier cross-breed, named Holly by her carers, happened on November 30 at 3pm in Cefn Fforest.

A passer-by stepped in to help the dog and stopped the attack.

Holly, as she was later named, was taken to the Bridge Veterinary Surgery in Pontllanfraith, for treatment.
