Caerphilly company Catnic wins top marketing award

Caerphilly firm Catnic, based on the Pontypandy Industrial Estate, has won a national marketing award.

The building products was one of five winners at the Canmol: Wales Marketing Awards, organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Barry Jenkins, marketing manager at Catnic, said: “Winning a Canmol Award is an excellent opportunity to showcase the success of our marketing campaign and to boost Catnic’s company profile.”

Speedboat stolen in Blackwood

Blackwood may be a good 20 miles away from the coast but that did not stop thieves from stealing a speedboat.

The red and white speed boat and trailer were stolen from Vancouver Drive, Blackwood, on the morning of Wednesday, September 23.

Two men driving a black estate vehicle were seen taking the boat and trailer from the driveway of the owner’s home.

Hanbury Road Baptist Chapel in Bargoed is to be transformed into a new library as part of the regeneration of the town.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has approved plans to turn the landmark Grade 2* listed building into a library and community space.

As well as boasting the library service, the building, located in the heart of the town centre, will also house a new community café and office space.

Caerphilly council to get Icelandic Banks money back

Caerphilly County Borough Council is to get at least £12.5 million out of £15 million it invested in the collapsed Icelandic banks.

In a further boost to the council’s budget woes, the Welsh Assembly Government is also giving more cash to the local authority through its settlement.

Leader of the council Lindsay Whittle said: “The early analysis shows the settlement figure gives us an additional 2.3% which, with all the inescapable pressures on our budget, will, we believe allow us to continue to deliver our core services.”
