Dr Who’s TARDIS spotted at Caerphilly Castle

Dr Who’s TARDIS has landed on top of Caerphilly Castle to help boost visitor numbers at the historic monument.

The blue police box, which is located on top of the Inner Gatehouse tower, will be lit up during the night and will remain at the castle until the New Year.

The castle was used to film some of the scenes in the final two episodes of the BBC Wales production, broadcast on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.

MP criticises Christmas rail works

Islwyn MP Don Touhig has said the decision to stop trains between London and South Wales for 10 days over Christmas and the New Year as “simply appalling.”

Over the Christmas period rail passengers who want to visit family and friends face chaos as Network Rail announced plans to shut the service between Bristol and Newport for engineering works from Christmas Eve until January 4 2010.

Rail services between Newport and Bristol and Newport and Gloucester will be replaced by coach services on December 27.

Crumlin arsonist jailed for toddler murder

A Crumlin man who murdered a three-year-old girl when he set fire to her Liverpool home in a revenge attack has been jailed for life.

Graham Heaps, 44, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court after he was convicted of the murder of toddler Francesca Bimpson on Monday.

He will serve at least 28 years behind bars.

Islwyn MP Don Touhig has paid tribute to Marjorie Holding for all the work she has done helping others over the years in Blackwood.

Mr Touhig presented his Unsung Hero Award to Mrs Holding for her contribution to Blackwood Methodist Church and the wider community.

She is a dedicated member of the Methodist Church and regularly holds coffee mornings to help raise funds for it.
