Caerphilly Council staff praised for snow effort
The leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council has praised staff for going “above and beyond the call of duty” during the recent bad weather.
Councillor Lindsay Whittle said: “Local councils are often an easy target for criticism when services are affected by severe weather but our staff have clearly shown that they are prepared to pull out all the stops to limit disruption to the community.
“There have been many examples of employees working around the clock, in very difficult conditions to deliver frontline services and I’d like to thank them all for their efforts.”
Caerphilly schools to open Friday
Schools across Caerphilly County Borough are to open on Friday.
After more than a week of disruption, things are returning to normal as the weather continues to improve and the thaw comes.
Most schools had reopened on Monday and Tuesday thanks to huge efforts by council staff to clear areas around them.
However the return of heavy snow on Tuesday afternoon meant many had to close early. They stayed shut on Wednesday and Thursday.

Council: Clearing rubbish is our priority
Caerphilly County Borough Council has said clearing the backlog of waste collections, delayed by the weather, is its top priority.
Councillor Lyn Ackerman, the cabinet member for the environment and housing, said: “We know the snow has caused disruption across all services in the county borough and we understand local residents are concerned about when their rubbish and recycling will be collected.
“I want to reassure all our residents we are doing everything we can to clear the backlog.”
