A group of young people from Caerphilly County Borough’s Youth Forum and The Hub projects had the chance to grill a European Parliamentary official during a recent visit to Brussels.

The thirteen young people were invited to visit the European Parliamentary building in Brussels by Member of European Parliament Jill Evans.

The youngsters quizzed her on a series of issues that were raised at the recent Youth Forum Conference in Caerphilly County Borough.

Five Cardiff City FC fans, all from Caerphilly, have been charged with violent disorder after a clash with rival Swindon Town FC fans.

Oakdale copper honoured by Prime Minister

An Oakdale policeman has been honoured for his achievements at a special reception at 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister.

Chief Superintendent, Ian Johnston, who is also the president of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales, attended the reception recently with his wife Janet after being nominated to attend by Islwyn MP, Don Touhig.

Mr Johnston served for 33 years with Gwent Police and was the Basic Command Unit Commander serving the Local Authority areas of Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent immediately prior to taking up his appointment with the Association.
