The A472 between Crumlin and Pontypool was closed for around 12 hours yesterday following a three-car crash.

Three people were taken to hospital.

The road was closed in both directions after the crash at around 12.30pm on Thursday, September 23. Police reported the road reopened at 12.41am on Friday morning.

While two air ambulances were called to the crash, the three casualties were taken by road ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff after being treated at the scene.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at approximately 12.37pm this afternoon to reports of a road traffic collision on the A472 between Pontypool and Hafodyrynys.

“We sent two rapid response cars and four emergency ambulances, and crews were supported by the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team and a Duty Operations Manager. We also sent a BASICS doctor and two air ambulances to the scene. Three people were taken by road to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.”
