Tributes have been paid to a “devoted wife, mother and grandmother” who was killed following a four-car crash on the A472 in Hafodyrynys last week.

Norma Ann Morgan, 75, from Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, was a passenger in a grey Peugeot 508, which was involved in the crash on Thursday, September 23. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

In a statement, Mrs Morgan’s family said: “Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed by our family and all who knew her.

“This has left an enormous void within our family and we’re trying to come to terms with the sudden loss.

“A retired teacher at Pontypool’s West Monmouth School, she had recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the emergency services for their valiant efforts at the scene of this tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those involved.”

Mrs Morgan’s family are currently being supported by specialist officers.

The crash also involved a police car, a white Nissan Juke and a silver Vauxhall Insignia.

A Gwent Police community support officer, who was in the police car, remains in hospital after suffering life-changing injuries. She is in a stable condition.

A police constable, who was also in the police car, has since been discharged from hospital.

The two passengers in the Nissan Juke – a 27-year-old woman and a two-year-old girl from Blaenau Gwent – were taken to the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran as a precaution after suffering minor injuries.
