Campsite could be here to stay if planning permission is granted

Tog Farm in Rudry has submitted a planning application to the council

A campsite on a farm in Rudry could become a permanent feature, if planning permission is granted.

Tog Farm, which already offers tourists a ‘glamping’ experience, has applied to set up six bell tents and build a toilet block, a car park and a ‘meet and greet’ facility.

The farm has been trialling tourist accommodation on one of their fields in recent months.

A planning application has now been submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council, arguing the popularity of the bell tents shows there is a demand for this type of tourism in the borough.

The application said: “Whilst the pandemic has possibly increased demand, there is continued growth and popularity for this type of vacation.”

The application states that the toilet block, the only permanent building, will be in-keeping with surroundings and will be “rusticated”.

Originally, the planning application was for shepherd huts, but this has since been changed to bell tents to offer visitors more of a “countryside experience”.

The tents are five metres in diameter and five metres in height.

While there are animals living on the farm, they are kept separate from the tourist accommodation unless “under expert supervision”.

A decision is expected to be made on the planning application by December 2.
