Work to upgrade pipelines is set to get underway in Pengam.

The work will start on Commercial Street on November 29, with delays expected.

It is expected to be completed before Christmas.

To keep disruption to a minimum, Wales & West Utilities, which is behind the works, said it has worked closely with Caerphilly County Borough Council to plan the works.

A phased road closure along Commercial Street will be in place throughout the scheme. Motorists have been advised to allow extra travel time due to potential disruption.

Wales and West Utilities’ Adam Smith, who is managing the project, said: “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”

He said work would be carried out “as safely and as quickly as possible” and said inconvenience will be kept “to a minimum”.

He added: “Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a two-metre distance if passing our work site.”
