Not-for-profit firms will be able to apply for up to £3,000 in funding towards community projects.
The funding is being made available through the Viridor and Prosiect Gwyrdd Community Fund – which provides £50,000 to community causes in south Wales each year.
This donation comes as part of a contract signed between Viridor – a non-recyclable waste treatment company – and Prosiect Gwyrdd, which is run by Caerphilly County Borough Council alongside Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Newport and Vale of Glamorgan councils. Prosiect Gwyrdd promotes the reduction of harmful methods of waste disposal in Wales.
Cardiff-based Viridor is responsible for non-recyclable waste in much of south Wales.
The community fund scheme was launched in 2016 and is set to run for 25 years.
Projects are awarded funding based on a set of criteria, which includes sustainability, local need, community involvement, value for money and education.
Any organisation or group, which is already established, not-for-profit and not controlled by a local authority can apply for funding.
Requests are restricted to one project per year.
Funds for successful applications will be made available within a month of the meeting where the request was reviewed.
For more information about the application process, visit Viridor‘s website.
