Caerphilly Observer has been nominated in the Community Journalism of the Year category at this year’s Wales Media Awards.

It is the seventh time Caerphilly Observer has been nominated for the Community award – having won it four years in a row between 2015 and 2018.

The delayed 2020 awards, which were held virtually in April last year, saw Caerphilly Observer named News Website of the Year.

Richard Gurner, Publisher and Editor of Caerphilly Observer, said: “Being nominated for the Wales Media Awards is a huge honour – especially as its our seventh straight nomination in the category.

“We are a very small team who work really hard to keep our readers informed. We’re independently-owned and without the backing of a large media company.

“We rely on the financial support of our members and our advertisers so a huge thank you to them. Another massive thank you also has to go to all the places that stock our fortnightly print edition.

“I’d like to thank our readers, our advertisers, and all the places that stock our newspaper for their continued support.”

The awards ceremony takes place this year on Friday, March 25, at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.

Alongside Caerphilly Observer in the Community Journalism category are Aberystwyth Ego and Cwmbran Life.

The awards, organised by the Journalists’ Charity, celebrate and promote great journalism in Wales, and will be hosted by BBC Wales presenter Lucy Owen and ITV Cymru Wales’ Jonathan Hill.
