Bin collections are set to resume having been cancelled on Friday due to Storm Eunice, Caerphilly County Borough Council has confirmed.

Any food or garden waste that was not collected on Friday will now be collected on Saturday, February 19.

Recycling bins will be collected on Friday, February 25. The council has said any additional recycling can be placed in clear bags alongside recycling bins.

Household Waste Recycling Centres across the borough will be open as normal over the weekend.

A list of recycling centres and their opening times can be found here.

As well as bin collections being cancelled, Storm Eunice also forced the council to close all schools, libraries and other council buildings on Friday, February 18.

Trains were also suspended across Wales, while Stagecoach South Wales cancelled bus services during the morning due to the storm

A red weather warning was issued for parts of south Wales and south-west England by the Met Office – the highest warning level.

Free school meal deliveries were also called off due to the storm. However, the council’s Chief Executive, Christina Harrhy sent out an appeal for council staff to help deliver the meals a day early – resulting in “dozens” of council workers coming forward to help with the deliveries.
