Paul Howells from Asda Blackwood

An Asda delivery driver has been praised by bosses for his quick-thinking actions when he noticed one of his regular customers had collapsed and raised the alarm

Paul Howells, from Asda’s Blackwood store, couldn’t get an answer at the door so looked through the kitchen window and saw the lady, who is in her 70s, on the floor.

According to the supermarket’s website, 54-old Paul and a neighbour managed to get into the house to comfort the lady until a family member and paramedics arrived to check.

After his delivery run, Paul then went back to visit. After she had made a quick recovery, the lady’s family thanked Paul for his help.

Store manager Anthony Tranter has nominated Paul, who’s worked at the store for three years, for a company award and said the whole store was proud of him.

He said: “Drivers like Paul really are unsung heroes. If he hadn’t had seen her when he did the situation could have been much worse.

“He is a very caring person who knows his customers inside and out and that’s why he knew something was wrong when she didn’t answer the door. He’s very passionate about his job and the customer always comes first. We are so lucky to have him on our team.”
