Five-thousand trees are being planted at a farm in Wattsville by volunteers to mark Tree Planting Week.

Running from March 7 to March 11, the tree planting is being arranged by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s ‘Green Spaces’ group – also known as its Parks, Countryside and Landscape Services department.

Pupils from Coleg y Cymoedd’s Ystrad Mynach campus and Ystrad Mynach Primary School will join the council’s Countryside Rangers at Ynys Hywel Farm, in Wattsville, for the planting.

In 2019 the Council became the second in Gwent to declare a climate emergency and commit to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

Cllr Andrew Whitcombe, Cabinet Member for Sustainability said: “Tackling climate change, increasing sustainability and protecting our environment for future generations is a key priority for the council and we are undertaking significant work to deal with this issue.”
