Two people have been charged following the death of ten-year-old Jack Lis after a dog attack.

Jack, who attended Cwm Ifor Primary School, died on November 8 following the attack at a friend’s house on Pentwyn, Penyrheol.

A 28-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from Caerphilly, have both been charged by police.

They have been charged with being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.

The 19-year-old has also been charged with five other counts of being in charge of an out of control dangerous dog.

They have both been released on bail and will appear at Newport Magistrate’s Court on April 7.

The breed of dog was later identified by police as an XL American Bully – a breed not banned by the Dangerous Dog Act, meaning it is legal to own in the UK.

The dog was shot dead by firearms officers after the attack.

Two 18-year-old men from Caerphilly were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control resulting in death but were released without charge.

A 34-year-old man from the Mountain Ash area, who voluntarily spoke to police in relation to the incident, was also released.

Gwent Police’s Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, Mark Hobrough, said: “This development does not also mean that our investigation has concluded; it is still active, and we will speak to any other person of interest as our enquiries into this matter continue.

“Since we started this investigation in November, there has been significant interest about this in our communities.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.

“It is vital that people continue to think about how their social media comments or posts could impact an ongoing investigation, and Jack’s grieving family.

“Once again, my condolences and thoughts are with Jack’s family, friends, school friends and everyone affected by this within the community.”

Jack’s funeral was held at St Martin’s Church in Caerphilly on November 25, with hundreds of people lining the streets to pay their respects.

Jack’s mother Emma paid tribute to her “beautiful baby boy” at the funeral.

She said: “I’ve spent the last ten years watching you grow and we started to see you grow into the most amazing man.

“My heart aches so badly I won’t get the chance to see you grow. I’ll forever miss your stories about the games on the PlayStation, the cars you built on the games.

“But most of all I’ll miss your voice my boy and I’d give anything to hear you again. This isn’t a goodbye, its a see you later dude.”
