Midfielder Natasha Harding, who grew up in Hengoed, celebrated her 100th international cap with a goal in Wales’ 3-0 World Cup qualifying win against Kazakhstan.
The win, on Tuesday, April 12, keeps World Cup qualification alive for Wales. If they qualify, it will be our first appearance at a major tournament.
Harding, who attended Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, made her international debut back in 2008, aged just 19 – coming off the bench in a 2-0 defeat away to Switzerland.
Talking to BBC Wales following the match, Harding expressed her pride having represented her country for the 100th time: “It was an emotional one, I could hardly sing the anthem.
“I’m so proud to be wearing this shirt.”
The dominant 3-0 win in Kazakhstan followed a 2-1 loss against group leaders France at Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli.
With just two games left in their qualification campaign, Wales are chasing the runners-up spot in Group I for a play-off match to make it to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Next up is Greece away on Friday, September 2, with a home match against Slovenia on Tuesday, September 6.
The 2023 World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand.
