Budding musicians will get the chance to create an original piece of music with a songwriter, thanks to a Caerphilly-based social enterprise.

RecRock, which runs music activities across Caerphilly County Borough, will be running three days of workshops at Newbridge Memo.

The project will run between May 31 and June 2.

RecRock is working with NoNaff Art, which is a not-for-profit group made up of art and wellbeing coaches operating across south Wales, to deliver the project.

Community musical group launches album

It will be aimed at young people aged between 12 and 18-years-old with an interest in music or art.

The project will look at the connections between music and visual art, with no experience in either area needed to take part.

RecRock founder Dan Fitzgerald, who is leading the project, said: “I love running projects like this, there is such a connection between visual art and music. We all know what the album cover is for our favourite piece of music. We just want to explore and encourage young people to be creative”.

He continued: “The project might be for someone who has found lockdown really tough, and has used the arts as a way to get through. Maybe they’ve been practicing guitar in their bedroom, or they’re a bit shy – this is perfect for anyone to get involved and meet likeminded people”.

The project is free to attend, but places are limited and booking is required.

Bookings can be made on Eventbrite.
