A 14-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car this morning.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on Highfields Way, Blackwood at around 8.10am.

“Officers attended to assist with traffic management and the collision involved a car and a pedestrian.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Aberbargoed and Ebbw Vale to the scene.

The Air Ambulance Service also attended.

The road was closed following the incident but has since reopened.

Police have not confirmed the girls’ condition.
