Caerphilly and District Schools Girls football club have grown from strength to strength over the last seven years. Initially starting with just two teams, the club are now able to field a side across every age group.
Until last season, a girls-only side had made it to just one final in the past six years, explained head of the girls’ side, James Law.
Due to the club’s continued development however, three sides reached a final this year, with the U13s lifting the Eunice Carter Cup after a 3-1 win over Cardiff and Vale Schools.
It was a “dominating victory”, said Law, as Seren Matthews from Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, Holly Owen-Roberts from Blackwood Comprehensive and Trinity Reakes from Lewis Girls School, all got on the scoresheet.
With this win, the girls became the first team in Caerphilly County Borough to become Welsh Schools National Champions.
Speaking about the success, Law said: “To make three national finals shows just how far we’ve come.
“Everyone involved was over the moon with the win. The girls are starting to mimic the boys in both standards and success, it’s great to see.
“Trials have already begun for next season. We’ve seen massive interest, with close to 200 showing up from all over the borough.”
