A record number of visitors descended on Mill Farm on Saturday, July 2 as the Machen Agricultural Show returned for the first time since the Covid pandemic.

Having last been held in 2019, more than 4,500 visitors visited the show on what was its 79th edition.

Machen Show chairman Kevin Stanworth told Caerphilly Observer the event received an “overwhelming response”.

Mr Stanworth said: “We had an excellent turnout. People are just glad to be able to get out.

The Machen Show attracted a record crowd after returning for the first time since the pandemic

“We’re very grateful for the turnout. It was the first time back and we didn’t know what reception we would get, but it exceeded our expectations.”

The main events included an Icelandic Horse Display and performances from Caerphilly Male Voice Choir.

There was a wide array of animals, crafts and foods on display as well as a host of exhibitions from local organisations and charities, with 65 stalls set up.

Mr Stanworth continued: “All the stall holders said they had a fantastic day.

“The weather forecast wasn’t great early on, but when the sun came out it really picked up.”
