Week 11 brought with it a mixed bag of results for teams across Caerphilly County Borough as they battled it out in the South East Wales Cricket League on a scorching Saturday, July 9.

Division one Newbridge made the short trip to Lisvane as they looked to escape from bottom of the table and avoid relegation.

Although a lot closer than some of their recent games, Newbridge fell short once again, as Lisvane chased 159 down with two wickets to spare. The visitors’ consolation six points however has moved them above Llandaf and into 11th. 

Meanwhile, top of the table Blackwood hosted Creigiau and set the visiting side a whopping 385 to chase.

Creigiau were all out after 30 overs as Blackwood claimed victory by 217 runs and secured the maximum 20 points. They sit two points ahead of Ebbw Vale in division two.

Second place Pontymister and Crosskeys were up against third place Newport in division three in what should have been one of the closer games this weekend.

Newport batted first and set a very respectable 276 for the visitors to chase. Pontymister and Crosskeys never got close however, Newport winning by 137 runs, leaving the travelling side a distant second.  

More bad news elsewhere in the division, as sixth place Crumlin came up against seventh place Miskin Manor in a mid-table battle.

In an incredibly close game that went down to the last over, Miskin just about managed to find the final runs and claim victory by five runs. The win puts Miskin above Crumlin as they switched league positions.  

In division four, Machen Cricket Club were looking to stretch their unbeaten run to 11 as they travelled to bottom of the league Sudbrook.

They took care of business with a comprehensive 133 run win after Sudbrook were unable to challenge the 323 figure set by Machen. Barring a collapse, Machen look set to secure promotion to division three.

Mid-table Abercarn were looking to improve their position in division four and secure only their fourth win this season as they played host to Bay Dragons.

The Dragons set a very manageable 116 for Abercarn to chase, which they accomplished; despite taking 40 overs to do so, with five wickets to spare.

In arguably the most competitive division, Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer played Lisvane‘s fourth side as they looked to close down the gap to top of the table Radyr.

The division nine game turned out to be a little too close for comfort as Lisvane made a good fist of chasing the hosts 195 before falling short and running out of wickets after 40 overs. 

Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer move into second place and now sit just six points behind first place.
