A 31-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of 57-year-old Richard Ash in Elliots Town, New Tredegar.

Rebecca Press, of Second Avenue, Trecenydd, appeared at Newport Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, July 20.

In a statement, Gwent Police said they were called to the address in Elliots Town at around 12.30am on Sunday, July 17 after a man was found unresponsive.

The statement continued: “Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service, who confirmed that a 57-year-old man had died.

“His next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.”

Appearing before magistrates, Press spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address.

She has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Newport Crown Court on Thursday, July 21.

Press has also been charged with assault.
