A mother and grandmother were killed in a car crash near Fochriw yesterday in which a three-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were also seriously injured.

The crash, between a blue Citroen C3 and a white Ford Ranger, happened on Fochriw Road at around 10.15am near the Cwmbargoed disposal point of Miller Argent.

The three-year-old boy was travelling in the Citroen with his 30-year-old mother and 79-year-old grandmother.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “The family are being supported by specially-trained officers. A 22-year-old man, who was in the Ford Ranger, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Police are appealing for information from anyone who was travelling on the road at the time of the crash. People can call Gwent Police on 101 or message them via social media quoting log 131 of July 19.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We deployed five rapid response vehicles, two emergency ambulances and were supported by South Western Ambulance Service who deployed an air ambulance.”
