A couple who ran a grocery store together in Caerphilly for more than two decades have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Myrddin Jones, who is originally from Llanbradach, and Georgina Crocker, from Bargoed, tied the knot on August 4, 1962, when they were 22-years-old.

The couple wed at St Martin’s Church, having met two years earlier at the Palais de Dance, which was later known as Pulsars nightclub, on Pentrebane Street, Caerphilly.

The couple would go onto set up home in Energlyn and raised three children together – Elizabeth, Catherine and Daniel.

They later went on to have five grandchildren – Bridget, Edward, William, James and Tom – as well as great grandchildren Freddie and Margot.

Myrddin was originally a mechanic, while Georgina, who was crowned Miss Caerphilly in the 1950s, worked with her father, George Crocker, in the family grocery business near the Bowls, Penyrheol.

After her father’s retirement in 1976, Georgina took over the business, which was known to locals as ‘Crocker’s’.

As the business grew, Myrddin joined Georgina in the running of the shop, which they would go on to run together until 1994.

Since retiring, the couple have enjoyed spending time at their holiday home and caravan in Tresaith, Ceredigion – a place they have been visiting regularly since 1972.

To celebrate their anniversary, the couple enjoyed an evening meal with family and friends in Tresaith

Asked to reveal the secret to their long and happy marriage, Georgina joked: “Plenty of patience”.
