Gerwyn Price is world number one once again
Gerwyn Price will star in Night 2 of the Premier League Darts in Cardiff on February 9

Markham’s Gerwyn Price will play in front of a sell-out home crowd as Premier League Darts returns to Cardiff on Thursday evening.

Price, ranked fourth in the world, will face world number 21 Chris Dobey in his first match of the afternoon. The winner will face whoever wins in the clash between Michael van Gerwen and Dimitri van den Bergh.

Price, was knocked out at the quarter-final stage in the opening round of the Premier League by Nathan Aspinall in Belfast last week. Dobey meanwhile won the title that night.

However, Price is feeling positive ahead of the event in Cardiff.

He said: “I cannot wait – Cardiff is one of the more intimate venues,” revealed 2021 World Champion Price, featuring in his fifth Premier League campaign.

“I always say the smaller the venue – like the World Matchplay – the better the atmosphere, so I am really looking forward to playing in Cardiff. This is the big one for me.

“I’m up against Chris on Thursday so it’s going to be another tough game.

“Chris is playing really well off the back of the Masters and his win in Belfast, but hopefully I can get a good result on home soil.”

Dobey said: “I have shown that I can win against the world’s best and I’m living the dream.

“I will just take every game as it comes. It’s a nice feeling to be top of the table, but there’s a long way to go yet.

“I’ve got a tough start again in Cardiff against Gezzy, but I’ll be ready for that test.

“Every game is a test for me because I’m new to all of this and I’m loving it. I’m getting a taste of it now and I want to be part of this all the time.”

Also competing in Cardiff is Carmarthenshire’s Jonny Clayton, who takes on reigning world champion Michael Smith in his opener.
