Residents’ concerns over the fate of a former club have been allayed after it was revealed what the building would be turned into.

The conversion of the former Club Lennox, on West Street, Bargoed, had caused some residents in the area to worry – with many believing the property would become residential, with the potential to cause “unrest” in the area.

The issue was raised at a Bargoed Town Council meeting on March 22.

Cllr Josie Bissex, who represents Park, brought the concerns of a number of residents before the town council and said they had felt “hoodwinked”.

Residents, however, have little reason to worry, according to Town Mayor Howard Llewelyn, who represents Gilfach.

He said: “They don’t have anything to be concerned about. The class of application doesn’t allow residential – it’s offices.”

A planning application submitted by the building’s owners, Shadow Holdings Ltd, in January this year requests a change in use from a pub, bar, or drinking establishment to a non-residential training centre.

This was approved by Caerphilly County Borough Council on March 17.
