What the tennis courts in Rhymney will look like after the upgrade

Tennis courts in Rhymney are set to be refurbished as part of a “collaborative investment” in facilities across Caerphilly County Borough.

The courts in Rhymney, which are located on the Terrace, will be upgraded as part of an investment between Caerphilly County Borough Council and Tennis Wales.

Work will include resurfacing, new nets and an e-gate entrance system with booking available via an app.

Courts at Blackwood Showfield, Morgan Jones Park, Pontymister, Ynysddu and Ystrad Mynach Park are also set to be upgraded over the coming months

A spokesperson for Caerphilly County Borough Council told Caerphilly Observer more about the plans and said: “Works are planned to start in May, and we are hopeful that all upgraded facilities as listed will be completed and in use by [the] start of July 2023.

“As part of the upgraded works package at Rhymney tennis courts, the investment will cover court re-surfacing to all three courts, anti-slip court and line painting (green courts / blue surrounds / white lines as per photo), new posts and nets for all courts, fencing repairs and installation of an e-gate entrance system.  The e-gate system will allow booking courts via an app.”

Labour Cllr Carl Cuss, who represents Twyn Carno said the upgrade had been welcomed by residents in his ward.

Cllr Cuss said: “The need to upgrade the tennis courts in Rhymney was brought up on the doorstep a few times during the local elections last year.

“I am pleased as a result of representations I made on behalf of residents that a bid to Tennis Wales was successful and improvements will be made in the coming weeks.

“The reaction locally has been really positive and I hope this welcome investment will be enjoyed by residents.”
