Pro Athlete Supplementation (PAS) Nutrition in Rhymney received a grant of more than £12,000

A Rhymney-based sports company has received a £12,000 grant from the UK government.

Pro Athlete Supplementation (PAS) Nutrition received £12,775 through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund – Caerphilly County Borough Council allocated the funds.

The company sells sports nutrition products such as protein bars and shakes, whey protein supplements and energy gels and shots.

It was founded in 2006 by WRU National Squad Nutritionist Jonathan Williams, and Olympic Gold and Silver Medallist Darren Campbell, MBE.

Former Wales rugby captain Sam Warburton is a brand ambassador and shareholder.

The money has gone towards buying a new forklift, has secured three jobs and funded one new role.

The amount was matched by PAS Nutrition.

Founder Jon Williams said: “The process of working with the Business Enterprise Renewal Team was easy, efficient, and straightforward and felt like they genuinely wanted to help.

“I was very well supported in the process. The forklift truck is going to be invaluable, as we wouldn’t be able to load trucks without it.”

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration & Climate Change said: “Great to hear how PAS Nutrition is operating out of their headquarters in Rhymney.

“It was brilliant to chat to Sam [Warburton] about the role he plays with the company and the plans for the future.

“We have been delighted to support PAS Nutrition through the Caerphilly Enterprise Fund.”

The company has acted as an Official Supplier of the Euros, Welsh Rugby Union and the Lions for the past two tours and works with Sam Warburton’s training academy, SW7.

There are plans for growth in the export market, including opening up South Africa, the Middle East, India and Australia to reach new markets and garner new business.
