A former club could be converted for business use under new plans submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Change-of-use planning permission was already granted earlier this year for the former Club Lennox in Bargoed to become a “non-residential training centre”.

But now a new application has been put forward to change the use of the West Street establishment for business purposes.

Bargoed Town Council sought to quell local concerns earlier this year amid rumours the former club, which closed in 2020, would become housing.

The change-of-use permission granted earlier this year allows the owners of Club Lennox to open a “non-residential” training centre in the property.

The planning permission being sought now would also allow the site to be used for business such as some types of offices, the research and development of products and processes, or light industry “appropriate in a residential area”, according to Welsh Government guidance.

Bargoed Town Council has “no objection to the application for change of use on the premises”, but councillors did ask that “consideration is given to the neighbours’ views regarding parking concerns in the area”.

The application can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 23/0455/COU.
