It is not known when a footbridge at Caerphilly railway station, which closed due to safety concerns, will reopen.

The bridge, which goes over the railway line, was looked at on Monday July 3 as part of a routine inspection.

It was discovered that a number of steps were moving or rocking when stepped on, forcing its closure.

The council has now said it is in talks with AMEY Infrastructure Wales, acting on behalf of Transport for Wales, to examine the bridge.

A council spokesperson said it is hoped this examination will be carried out in early September.

The spokesperson continued: “In the interests of public safety, the bridge must remain closed in the interim period until the structure is deemed fit for purpose.

“We are unable to provide a date for when the structure will reopen at present, as it is dependent on the outcome of the visual inspection.”
