A hospice is looking for cyclists and rugby lovers to take on a 200-mile cycle ride to raise money for children with life-shortening conditions.
Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice is looking for “25 intrepid Welsh rugby-loving cyclists” to take on the 217-mile journey called ‘Ride to the Rugby’ – which goes from Swansea to Dublin in just four days.
The aim is for riders to leave Swansea on February 20 and arrive in Dublin just in time to watch Wales take on Ireland in the Six Nations at the Aviva Stadium on February 24.
There are hopes that the fundraising ride will raise £45,000 for Ty Hafan – one of two children’s hospices in Wales – in order to contribute towards the costs of their services, which are estimated at around £14,250 a day.
James Davies-Hale, Head of Fundraising for Ty Hafan said: “Ty Hafan’s Ride to the Rugby is the definition of teamwork, camaraderie and blood, sweat and tears.
“Last year our Ride to The Rugby team rode 221 miles from Calais to Paris in three days, raising thousands of pounds for Ty Hafan in the process – with the event topped off by watching Wales v France at the Stade de France.
“If you enjoy cycling, are ready to set your mind on a goal and train towards achieving it and want to be part of something amazing, this is the challenge for you. But don’t delay as we have just 25 places left.”
James continued: “The funds raised through this event alone are just incredible, especially as the event was postponed for three years because of the pandemic.
“It is an event where you really get to know the participants who go on to become life-long supporters of our charity.”
