A section of the A469, which bridges over the Rhymney River near Gilfach and had been closed for more than six weeks, has now reopened.

A section of the A469, which was closed between Lewis School Pengam and the roundabout near Aberbargoed Fire Station, was set to be closed in both directions until September 1 – but was then delayed until September 6.

Caerphilly County Borough Council said repairs were necessary as “depressions” had been found on the road going over the bridge during a routine inspection and the delay was due to ‘unforseen circumstances’.

On September 7, a spokesperson for Caerphilly County Borough Council told Caerphilly Observer: “Works on the A469 which bridges over Rhymney River near Gilfach have been completed and the road has re-opened.”
