Caerphilly County Borough Council has signed a pledge to treat current and former Armed Forces personnel fairly.

The council put pen to paper on the Armed Forces Covenant on Thursday November 2.

The covenant is a voluntary pledge to support the welfare, employment and education of the Armed Forces community and their families.

The council is one of more than 10,000 organisations across a range of sectors to commit itself to the covenant.

Blackwood Town Council and Gelligaer Community Council are among those, as are borough-based organisations including Coleg y Cymoedd, Educ8 Training, Vibrant Property Partner, Vetro Recruitment, QDL Contractors, and Grassroots Suicide Prevention.

The 203 Field Squadron joined these organisations to mark the signing of the covenant.

Cllr Theresa Heron, the council’s Armed Forces Community Covenant champion, said: “We recognise the important role that Armed Forces personnel play in our society and are committed to supporting them and their families.

“It gives our clear commitment to ensuring members of the armed forces community do not face discrimination and helps to build our reputation as a forces-friendly employer.”
